Masterpiece

“The family is one of nature's masterpieces.” - George Santayana, American philosopher and poet

A professor of mine once said, "A great piece of art works well in a group, but can also stand strongly by itself." The Christo's splashed into my world, and were a real masterpiece. Their colorful personalities were varied like their shirt's vibrant hues. I enjoyed getting to know each of them in the short time I spent with them. Each of them stand out separately in my mind, they were such darling, photogenic, and well mannered individuals. However, as their colorful shirts came together, so did their masterpiece. It was intriguing to see a work of art in progress.

Oldie but Goodie

Give a child wheels, and all they want to do is go. Even if they have trouble pedaling, as Reagan did, it's just enough for them to be sitting on it. You can see their imagination at work. Photographing Reagan on this trike brought back memories for me on the "step up" from the trike, the Hot Wheel. I tore up my sidewalk in that thing. In fact, I remember touching the wheels after riding it, they were indeed hot. I would ride down our sidewalk from the garage, and take a sharp left turn, swinging the back end around. I wore out the wheels on that hot rod, finally having to throw it away. I bet you have a similar riding story. Here's hoping these pictures bring back some great memories for you...

Carefree Couple

It seemed fitting that I photographed Tiffany and Nick in the summer sun at the lake they enjoy spending time at. They seem like a couple that are very relaxed and go-with-the-flow...which is what the hot summer sun, beaches, and glistening water do to people. I enjoyed getting to know them better as we walked on the shore and casually took pictures. Best wishes as they begin their new life together, may they always be that carefree couple.

Best Things in Life are Free

I met the Thompson's through my friend, Craig...CraigsList that is. They were wanting a photographer, and I was wanting my garden tilled. It turned out to be a perfect exchange. I knew these two boys were going to be full of life after calling their house one day. One of the boys answered and after saying that his mom was not there, I asked if he could take a message, "What kind of message?" he asked. I couldn't help but smirk at his reply. A second later he said, "I'm lyin', she's here," in the cutest little voice. Oh my goodness, what a ham!

One of my favorite pictures from them, is the first one we took. I said, "One, two, three!" and on three, he jumped as high as he could. It was perfect! But I bet his mother would disagree with me. :) I wonder how long he was plotting that in his little daring mind? It's true, the best things in life are free. I have a beautiful blooming garden thanks to their tilling, and they received a lifetime of memories via pictures.

Same, Yet Different

One aspect I like most about being a photographer is meeting all the different personalities. I had the pleasure of photographing a set of twins and their older sister the other day. It was interesting to see how the twins looked exactly alike, yet were always doing two separate things. I think it so fascinating how God made them so similar, yet so different. One smiled, while one gazed at the other. One looked away from the camera, as one looked directly into the lens. One frowned, as one giggled. When I asked the question, "Who's cute?" they did; however, give me the same reaction. "ME!!" as they jumped up and down with an ear to ear smile.

Action Figure

From the beginning, Peyton was full of energy. He was the type of guy looking for action, bringing his fishing pole, cowboy hat, and action figures to the park. For just a few minutes we stopped to play with Spiderman and Batman (and others I'm too old school to know the names of). Through my lens, I zoomed in on his sparkling eyes that were in awe of Batman's cape. As he twirled and whipped them in the air, I couldn't help but wonder if he was living vicariously through them as he racing and twirled through the wide-open spaces of the park. Children's minds are amazing, I love capturing what they are thinking and dreaming.
